A 10 mile circular hike of two halves. Starting from the village of North Newbald we start with a short but steep(ish) climb up Dot Hill, then we follow the Wolds until we briefly join the Yorkshire Wolds Way to the village of Sancton (from the top of the Wolds we get good views over East Yorkshire). From Sancton the route now stays relatively flat, first following farm tracks to Houghton Hall’s grounds, before we hike through the Houghton Moor woodland. Finally we follow a quiet country lane back to North Newbald.
Well behaved dogs are welcome, but they must be kept on a lead. We do cross the fairly busy A1034 twice, although this is at villages so the road is 30 mph and also we briefly cross a muddy cow field.
Refreshments:
Option at the end of the walk for refreshments at The Gnu Inn.
W/C Toilets:
None at the start. Nearest public toilet is at Market Weighton (8 min drive).
End - The Gnu Inn or Market Weighton Public Toilets.
Time:
Estimated finish 5 hours to 5 hours 30 mins (15:30 to 16:00).
Parking arrangements:
Free on street parking around the village, I would recommend Eastgate or Westgate. Please park with consideration for the residents and consider car sharing where possible. The best place to arrange a lift is on the Facebook event.
The village hall is booked for a private party in the afternoon so please do not park there.
