Description:
Let's start 2023 with a great walk from Ripon Cathedral (which will feature a few times on route) to and around Studley. Meeting outside of the Cathedral, we will head to Studley following the route of the river Skell.
The first part of the route includes a combination of public paths, open fields and woods, making our way to the village of Studley Roger. We will then head up the hill of Plumpton Lane, to where what I believe is one of the greatest views (on a nice day – so no guarantees!!). You can see the Cathedral, Sutton Bank and the White Horse now it's been painted!
We will then wind our way around the 7 Bridges route, before stopping for lunch by the lake. Although there is a café here, it has limited lunch options and can be slowish service, particularly if it is busy! So bring your own lunch as usual!
We will then head up a short, steep hill (passing toilets on the way) and continue our walk with effectively a lap of Studley Deer Park, passing St Mary's church and another great view of the Cathedral, before making our way back to the car park near the Cathedral.
Dogs are welcome, but they will need to be on a lead for the majority of the route as there are sheep and deer on route.
Parking arrangements:
Car park at Sainsbury's – Cathedral / St Marygate Car Park. Car parking is £2.50 for over 4 hours. Avoid the Arcade car park if possible as that's more expensive. Free on street parking is available on either Bondgate Green or Bondgate Green lane with a short walk up to the Cathedral.
