Description:
This is a 10.5 mile walk incorporating moorland, riverside and woodland. There are a few sections on live highways but traffic levels are generally low. Crucially the walk begins by getting to Egton Bridge rail station to catch a train to Danby at 10:43. A train ticket costs £4.40 which you can buy from the ticket machine on the platform.
A twenty minute train ride takes us to the start of the walk at Danby. We then walk back to Egton Bridge through the villages of Lealholm and Glaisdale, where there are public toilets.
During the walk we have to walk on and cross some live highways. Traffic is generally low but single file walking is necessary. Across various fields, sheep are present so dogs need to be on a lead. There some stiles which are dog friendly but not all.
There are opportunities to have food and drink at the end of the walk in Egton, a hotel with garden and a pub.
Note that the train to the start of the walk (at Danby) leaves Egton Station at 10:43, so best to arrive in the car park at least 15 minutes before.
Parking arrangements:
Car sharing is recommended as the small free car park at Egton Bridge Station only has space for around 20 cars. Bear in mind this is bank holiday weekend, so the car park may already have some vehicles in it. There is some on street nearby as well, but allow an extra five minutes to walk to the station.
