This is the final section of the Esk Valley walk, a 10 mile linear route from Egton Bridge to Whitby.

We will meet at Whitby Railway Station at 10am, where we will catch the train at 10:22 to Egton. Tickets cost £5. Please ensure that you have either bought your ticket online or allow enough time to purchase one from the machine at the station.

This is a mildly undulating walk on good paths and tracks, shadowing the line of the river. Heading down the old toll road from Egton Bridge, we skirt the village of Grosmont and take the bridleway up past Fotherleys Farm and see some interesting old artifacts at Newbiggin Hall Farm. We then cross fields and woodlands before reaching the village of Sleights.

We continue on following the leaping salmon waymarkers, crossing more fields towards Ruswarp. As we near Whitby, there is a steepish descent and ascent as we cross the disused railway line and shortly after that we will find ourselves in a busy populated area again.

The walk finishes at the end of the pier, with views out to sea and looking back, of the harbour and the Abbey. There will be the opportunity for some well deserved chips and ice-cream at the end of the walk.

Please be aware that there were cattle and sheep in the fields on the recce. We also cross several fields and stiles along the way. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead.

Pay and display parking is available at the Marina car park, Langbourne Road, Whitby, YO21 1YN. Please consider car sharing where possible to minimise the cost.
