Description:

This walk does not require pre-booking.

Meeting at the car park on the High Street, we will walk to the train station at 10.15 (about 3/4 of a mile) to pick up the 10.40 train to Commondale. I would advise booking your ticket online, as there is only one ticket machine at the station.

When we arrive in Commondale we walk through pretty village and make our way up onto Skelderskew Moor. Once on the tops we pass the Commondale Shepherds Memorial and make our way to the trig point on Gisborough Moor.

We pick up the Cleveland Way passing over Highcliff Nab, where we pause to take in the views. We stick with the Cleveland Way climbing up the steep hill, Roseberry Topping, affectionately known at the Yorkshire Matterhorn. After taking in the expansive views, we descend the Topping and make our way through the woods to the picture frame and back into Great Ayton.

This walk is suitable for dogs, however they must be kept on a lead on the Moors and on the train. Also the train maybe busy, so bare this in mind if you would like to bring a dog.

Sections of the walk can be boggy and muddy, please wear appropriate footwear (not wellies). For further information please see the kit list.

Parking arrangements:

There is a free car park on the High Street and parking along the High Street in Great Ayton. Please park considerately.

There is also on street parking around Low Green - this is a 10 minute walk from the meet point.

Please car share if possible.
