Description:

This walk is part of our weekend trip away in Swaledale. Bookings for the weekend are full but you are welcome to join us for the day. No pre-booking required.

Starting walking at 10.30am, this moderate 11 mile walk leaves the village of Gunnerside along the river before gradually climbing up the valley along to Gunnerside Gill where there are wonderful views and lots of remnants of the old lead mining industry. We come across some lovely old bridges, lots of water and eventually the Old Gang Mines which are pretty impressive to look at and provide some great photo opportunities. After this we walk down to Surrender Bridge and then walk back along to Gunnerside over some moorland and fields taking in more stunning views of the Swaledale valley.

This walk is mainly along fairly decent paths but there are some high points, some loose rocks underfoot at times and likely some water, so boots are strongly advised - ideally waterproof ones.

The walk is suitable for dogs but there are lots of sheep so please keep them on a lead.

There are public toilets in Gunnerside although change may be required to operate them.

Parking arrangements:

The parking area in Gunnerside (DL11 6LD) is very limited so we will be lift sharing from the YHA - an honesty box is available.

If you would to car share, create a post on the Facebook event, letting others know where you are travelling from.
