With Government restrictions easing, we have increased the maximum number of places available on this walk to 30 but we still require you to book in advance through Eventbrite.
From Jervaulx Abbey tearooms we will walk up a short stretch of minor road and then through farmland to the village of East Witton. After some more pleasant fields we cross the River Cover at Hullo Bridge and ascend fairly steeply up to Middleham Castle.
The return journey is via Straight Lane and the riverbank footpath to Cover Bridge and from there over the River Ure using a twin span bridge to Ulshaw. A bridleway through the picturesque grounds of Danby Hall brings us to the wonderful village of Thornton Steward. From here we go through a series of fields to Kilgram Bridge (a triple span model) and a short stretch of road to Jervaulx Park and the track through the remains of Jervaulx Abbey. This brings us back to the Jervaulx tearooms ready for tea and cake or whatever takes your fancy!
The walk is of Intermediate grade only because of the distance, although it is not particularly strenuous and there are only 2 climbs both of which are short and easy. The walk does pass through a series of fields that may have livestock in them, therefore I expect dogs to be under control.
