A lovely circular walk from Hovingham in the Howardian Hills. Leaving the village, we follow paths alongside fields, onto a section of disused railway and pass through the village of Slingsby, where we can see the ruins of Slingsby Castle just visible through the trees from the road. We continue on further tracks and field paths to Barton le Street, with its large village green which will be a good spot for a lunch stop. From here we walk uphill to a wooded ridge, which has lovely views over the Vale of Pickering. We join the Centenary Way and follow this path back to Hovingham, where we can hopefully have tea and cake.

This is a relatively easy walk on good paths and tracks, with just 2 short uphill sections. The farmland was just crops and no livestock on the recce, so should be suitable for dogs.

Parking arrangements:

Hovingham Village Hall car park (with honesty box) plus on street parking in the village. Please park with consideration of the residents.

GYBO is a friendly and sociable walking group aimed at people in their 20s, 30s and the young at heart.
