Description:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: This walk is limited to 12 places (including the walk leader), these MUST be booked in advance through Eventbrite - see link at bottom of the walk description. Anyone who has not booked a place will not be allowed on this walk.

This is a circular walk taking in moorland, clifftop and beach scenery. Most of the route is well surfaced, but can be muddy and slippery in places. There are a mix of gradual ascents and short steep climbs.

Heading out across the moor, we pass a hillside pond in an otherwise featureless landscape. As we descend towards Ravenscar, the coast opens out below for extensive views to Robin Hood's Bay, a varied vista of heathland, cliffs and rolling fields. We pass the visitor centre and toilets before reaching the Alum Works for some interesting industrial heritage. From there it is a clifftop walk on the Cleveland Way via Boggle Hole.

Before entering Robin Hood's Bay we will pick a spot for an extended lunch, where there is the opportunity to visit part of the picturesque harbourside town with its narrow, leafy, and old fashioned streets (splitting into small groups due to Covid rules). Afterwards we follow an old railway trail through woodland and fields, ascending back to the moor.

Parking arrangements: Parking on side road adjacent to A171 at the map pin below:
