Description:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: This walk is limited to 12 places (including the walk leader), these MUST be booked in advance through Eventbrite - see link at bottom of the walk description. Anyone who has not booked a place will not be allowed on this walk.

At the start of this walk we will have a Covid-19 briefing along with the usual introductions and walk description, and everyone will be expected to follow social distancing guidance through out the walk. Also we ask you do not bring food items to share, sweets, cake etc as this could facilitate the spread of Covid-19. It is also advisable to bring hand sanitiser on the walk as there are no hand washing facilities on the route, and also bring a face covering.

This is a pleasant loop round the north of Helmsley taking in two tree-lined valleys and rolling farmland, with views to the edge of the moors. This walk is mostly on tracks, with gentle gradients (apart from one short, but steep climb).

We head out of Helmsley up Beck Dale. This gently sloping, tree-lined valley is used for raising game-birds so is full of pheasants and partridges, and has a babbling brook wending it's way back and forth across the scenic valley floor. At the top of the valley we head past High Baxton's Farm and Carlton Grange with their fields of fleecy sheep and scenic farmland views. We then head back towards Helmsley along Riccal Dale with woods on one side and rolling farmland on the other (and more pheasants everywhere).

Dogs are welcome on this walk, but be aware that there are a large number of game-birds on the route, and that dogs MUST be on a lead when walking through fields containing sheep or cattle.

Car parking costs about £6 for all day parking.
