IMPORTANT INFORMATION: This walk is limited to 6 places (including the walk leader), these MUST be booked in advance through Eventbrite - see link at bottom of the walk description. Anyone who has not booked a place will not be allowed on this walk.
Everyone will be expected to follow physical distancing guidance through out the walk. It is also advisable to bring hand sanitiser on the walk.
This walk is aimed at new members, and although it is relatively short, there are multiple steep climbs around the dales. The walk is ideal for those who like to explore the countryside, meet new people and enjoy a social pub stop afterwards.
We will set off from Bishop Wilton along the Minster Way and Chalkland Way, starting with a short steep climb to get us warmed up and offering views back over the village.
After passing Little Manor Farm we follow the Minster Way through Given Dale, with water and woodland on either side, opening out into rolling green valleys. Around a mile further on, we turn left into Whitekeld Dale along a woodland track. After emerging from the trees, open access land along Deep Dale provides the opportunity to explore the leafy slopes and watery valleys, where we will find a scenic spot for lunch.
For the home journey we will ascend out of the dale and across Bishop Wilton wold, with views back to the village as we wind around Crow Wood and Old Wood. We descend and return to Bishop Wilton via the delightful village green which follows a watercourse back to The Fleece Inn.
This provides an idyllic setting for a well earned pint and rest. If the weather is nice we will sit out on the green for a cool down and socially distanced chat before going our separate ways. The walk is likely to finish mid-to-late afternoon, depending how long we spend roaming the dales.
Parking arrangements: There are limited parking spots available along Main Street in the centre of the village. It is recommended to allow extra time in case you need to park further along Main St and walk to the meeting point. If needed, contact the walk leader by mobile.
You are welcome to attend up to three of our walks before you need to sign up as a member of the Ramblers
