IMPORTANT INFORMATION: This walk is limited to 10 places (including the walk leader), these MUST be booked in advance through Eventbrite - see link at bottom of the walk description. Anyone who has not booked a place will not be allowed on this walk.
Please arrive by 10am and be ready to walk for 10.15. The car park and layby were full when I recced this - so I recommend you arrive up by 9.45am to avoid the possibility of having to park on the main road. There are toilets at the carpark, but they are only open from 10-4 so the timing of the walk is set to allow us to use them before and hopefully after the walk. As ever though, please bring hand sanitiser.
Please note that this is a rewarding but hilly walk - we will walk 11.5 miles but climb nearly 1000m in total, hence the 'intermediate' rating. It is cracking though - worth having aching knees the day after...
We will start from the car park at Newton Under Roseberry, starting as we mean to go on by walking uphill and circling Roseberry Topping before heading up on to the Cleveland Way. With lovely views over the moors we will walk over to Captain Cooks monument, where we will stop for lunch.
From the monument we carry on along the Cleveland Way into some woodland before heading down towards a farm (with llamas!) and then up onto the moors where we will have fine views of the sea. Our next stop is High Cliff Nab where we will stop for a break, overlooking Guisbrough.
After this, we head down into woodland for a while before clambering up to the Hanging Stone for another breather. We'll then head back onto the Cleveland Way where we dip down and then ascend to the top of Roseberry Topping. It's then a short drop back down to the car park.
Parking arrangements: Pay and Display carpark (£4.80 all day) or free parking at the layby towards the far end of the village.
You are welcome to attend up to three of our walks before you need to sign up as a member of the Ramblers
