⚠️Important Note: This is a linear walk, so we meet at the end of the walk in Ganton @10:00, where we will then arrange carsharing to the start of the walk in Wintringham.

The Wolds Way from Wintringham to Ganton follows the northern edge of the Yorkshire Wolds with expansive views across the Vale of Pickering. As we head east, the first glimpses of the North Sea will be revealed beyond the golden fields.

After meeting in Ganton and car sharing to Wintringham, we start with a steady climb into the woods overlooking the village. The first ascent serves as a warm up for the much steeper path to come, which elevates us from Deep Dale to the 'Enclosure Rites' art installation at the top of Knapton Brow. Here we will catch our breath while admiring the wood carvings and reflections in the dew pond.

The path levels out as we follow the contours along the edge of the vale through woodland and hay meadows. Walkers are warned of the particularly industrious rabbits whose warrens have formed walking boot sized holes in the path, so keeping a good lookout for the burrows is essential.

One of the meadows overlooking the church spires in the villages below will serve as our lunch stop, before we briefly drop into the vale near Sherburn. After a short period walking along a road and climbing the hill, we will pass the golf course and pig farms taking care not to trip over the many grouse sharing the paths with us.

We depart the path to Filey near St Nicholas' Church where we turn towards The Ganton Greyhound for refreshments, marking the completion of the penultimate leg of the Wolds Way.

🅿️ Layby next to The Ganton Greyhound at the meeting point, or the layby next to St Peter's Church, Wintringham (please park considerately).

🚌 Ganton is on the Coastliner 843 bus route.

🥪 You will need to bring a packed lunch, there is nowhere to buy food or drink on the walk.

🥾 Ensure to bring hiking shoes/boots, and hopefully sun cream! There is a steep climb early in the route, and some brambles and long grass. 

🍺 Option at the end for drink at The Ganton Greyhound.

🚻 Unfortunately there are no public toilets on this route.

🐶 Dogs are welcome but MUST be kept on a lead due to livestock in the fields. Please make sure in advance there is someone happy to carshare with a dog.
