Description:

Do you like long walks on undulating terrain?

Do you like expensive views over rolling countryside?

Do you even like admiring sculptures whilst you're on a walk?

If so, the 4th leg of the Wolds Way is for you!

Starting in Millington, a steep climb to re-join the Wolds Way proper very much provides a warm-up for the walk yet to come. Once on the main trail, the first few miles will see us skirt the southern flat of Millington pastures, a classic Wolds dry-valley popular which snakes its way Eastwards...and upwards. Whilst on this section of the trail, there are a few calf-burning ascents and descents. However, don't worry, once this section is complete the steep-inclines will be too!

A solitary acorn carved on a lone post marks the start of the next section of the walk as we head towards Huggate. This is the High Wolds; a place to fully appreciate the far-reaching vistas of the Wolds and to appreciate the landscape that inspired so many works by one of Britain's greatest living artists- David Hockey.

Beyond Huggate, we'll stop for Lunch at the 'Poetry Bench' which overlooks Horse Dale. There is actually a box of writing materials there, so anyone inspired to pen a verse or two is more than welcome to over lunch!

Once fed and watered, we'll drop down into Horse Dale and follow its course up to Fridaythorpe. Here on the village green, there is a welcome sight...the half-way mark of the Wolds Way! However, fear not, by this stage there is only 4 miles to go on our walk.

Leaving Huggate, the path turns West and passes through the wonderfully named Brubber Dale- yet another dry valley- before the final descent towards Thixendale. At this point, hopefully the grass and the angle of the light will work together for us to get a good view of 'Waves and Time'- the biggest of the works of art that pepper the Wolds Way.

The final stretch of the walk will be an much appreciated cool-down with just over a mile of flat valley walking to taking us into our final destination: Thixendale.
