- YHA Hartington Map of meeting point
Description: Join us for a weekend at the fabulous Hartington Hall hostel in the heart of the Derbyshire Peak District - a 17th century manor house with roaring fires and a great pub in the village just a few minutes' walk away, this is the perfect base for exploring the area. The weekend costs £38, and is open to members only. To book your place, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Saturday's walk: Parsley Hay and Lathkill Dale (16 miles). Although a long walk, it generally follows old railway lines and valley floors, so is mostly easy-going. We start from the visitor centre at the intriguingly named Parsley Hay, then head across country to the pretty villages of Middleton and Alport, returning along the River Lathkill, where we can explore caves, abandoned houses and old mine-shafts, and then a final section along the old railway line to get back to the cars.
Sunday's walk: Alstonefield and Dovedale (13 miles). Starting from Alstonefield, we set off across farmland to the NT land of Wetton Hills, and then follow the Manifold Valley, stopping at the ruined remains of Throwley Old Hall for lunch, and continuing to the impressive country park at Ilam where we can stop for a cup of tea and refreshments. We then return up the impressive gorge of Dovedale via the stepping stones and more caves to explore.
Meeting Point: YHA Hartington, SK17 0AT
