Description: From Ebberston we head towards the village of Snainton, following the path across a golf driving range. Approaching Snainton we walk a short distance on a fairly busy road. As we leave the village we pass a disused quarry and on towards Wydale Hall, descending through woodland. At Headon Farm we turn left along a minor road, continuing on to an unsurfaced track which runs along the edge of mixed woodland. After passing Mile Bush Farm, we skirt around fields passing the edge of a disused quarry and then descend onto a good track in the bottom of a small valley, known as Well Dale. Looking back as we head up towards Malton Cote Farm, there are lovely views over the Vale of Pickering. We follow another minor road uphill after passing the farm and then take an unsurfaced track gently downhill and into Chafer Wood, where we will find King Alfred's Cairn. Soon we will arrive back in Ebberston & we can have a drink at The Grapes.
This is a fairly easy walk crossing fields, good tracks and minor roads, with some gentle climbs and should be manageable for walkers of all abilities. There are some lovely views over the Vale of Pickering and towards the Wolds.
