Meet on Station Lane, Cloughton (follow signs for the Station Tea Room) by 11.00, ready to start walking as soon as the bus arrives. There is on-street parking; please be considerate to local residents.
This is a walk of two different halves. The first half follows the disused 'Cinder Track' railway line from Cloughton to Ravenscar; the second half follows the coast along the Cleveland Way back to Cloughton. The disused railway line to Ravenscar provides an easy, flat pathway to walk along, coming across the old station at Staintondale and several old railway bridges – the sea is often visible in the distance over the hills and farmland to our right. Once at Ravenscar there are spectacular views of Robin Hood's Bay to the west and the rugged local coastline – plus our lunch stop.
The walk back to Cloughton continues to provide great coastal views, plus the bonus of the wooded area of Hayburn Wyke which we will walk through, down into the cove where there is a small waterfall and we're also likely to see some (mad?) surfers. Hopefully the tea room will be open when we get back to Cloughton – if not, the local pub looks promising!
This walk is suitable for dogs.
