Following the GYBO tradition, a long weekend away has been planned to the far-flung Scottish Highlands over Easter.
Andy W has booked three nights in the SYHA hostel in Glencoe, Scotland for the Easter bank holiday (Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th April). Numbers will be limited to 18 to keep the group manageable. There are still some places available, so please email Andy if you are interested. The cost is £53.25 for the weekend.
Home of the famous massacre of Glencoe, the area is dominated by the high Bidean massif in the south and the spectacular Anoach Eagach ridge to the north.
The intention is to climb Bidean nam Bian (1150m) on the Saturday and the Pap of Glencoe (742m) on the Sunday.
Bidean nam Bian is the highest hill in the old country of Argyll and retires behind its outliners. This peak of the mountains is well named for its summit thrown up by four great ridges, which give way to no less than nine separate summits and cradle three deep and distinctive corries. The route we would take involves some short scrambles and areas of exposure and is needless to say a very hard but rewarding mountain walk.
The Pap of Glencoe, whilst not having the status of a Munro, is never the less a rewarding climb with spectacular panoramic views of Loch Leven and the surrounding area.
These will be two tough walks, incorporating some long and steep climbs, some scrambling and areas of very exposed walking – please take this into consideration when deciding whether or not to attend! If you're not sure whether you will cope, please do ask Andy.
