Meet at the pay and display car park at the north end of Buckden (£3.20).
After an initial steep climb along a stony track (Roman road), a grassy track leads across Buckden Rake before a path leads steeply down to Cray where we will cross some stepping stones. From Cray a flat path leads across limestone terrain with superb views of Wharfdale all the way to Yockenthwaite. We will then follow a riverside path across meadowland to Hubberholme, then on to Buckden where we will visit the Buck Inn for drinks.
By public transport: take the 0744 train from York to Leeds, then the 0832 train from Leeds to Ilkley. Get the Pride of the Dales 74 bus at 0935 from Ilkley railway station to Grassington, then change to a 72 bus to Buckden (arrives 1100, we will wait for the bus!)
Return public transport: take the Pride of the Dales 74 at 1700 from Buckden to Ilkley, then a train to Leeds and a train to York, arriving back into York at 2005. If we get round really quickly and you don't want to join us in the pub, you might even get back in time for the 1500 bus.
The cheapest way to do this journey by public transport is to get a day return from York (or wherever you are starting from) to Leeds, and then a ticket from Leeds to Ilkley+Dalesbus for £7.50 return. (If you want to save another £5.50, you can get the 843 bus from York station at 0705, but that is quite an early start. It's probably a better plan to try to bribe someone into giving you a lift).
