Walk diary
We've got some space in the diary for some more walks, so we're looking for volunteers to lead walks. If you'd like to give that a go, please just check that it doesn't clash with any of the walks below, then put your name down!
Sunday 5 February 2012: Fairburn Ings
- Distance
- 7 miles
- Difficulty
- Easy
- Meet
- 10.30am at Fairburn (primary school)
- Leader
- Debs
This is a short but interesting, walk around Fairburn Ings RSPB reserve. We will make use of the reserve's riverside trail which includes woodland walking, and passes wetlands where you might spot some interesting waterfowl. The walk is easy-going, and afterwards we will visit one of the excellent local pubs.
We have changed the meeting point to Fairburn primary school because of the snow. When we get there, we will take a view as to whether the road to the nature reserve is passable or whether to walk from the village instead.
Saturday 11 February 2012: Hope Valley
- Distance
- 13 miles
- Difficulty
- Moderate/Hard
- Meet
- 10.00am at Hope (railway station)
- Leader
- Colin
A stunning walk in the Peak District, from Hope station we climb the hills of Winhill Pike, Ward's Piece and Mam Tor, with views across Ladybower Reservoir, the Hope Valley and the Vale of Edale, returning past the Blue John Mines, Speedwell Cavern and the picture postcard village of Castleton.
Saturday 18 February 2012: Fridaythorpe
- Distance
- 10 miles
- Difficulty
- Moderate
- Meet
- 10.30am at Fridaythorpe (village green)
- Leader
- Emma
A scenic walk from the centre of Fridaythorpe across a classic High Wolds landscape of open hillsides and steep sided narrow dales as well as ridges and woodland. Much of the walk follows the routes of the Wolds Way and Minster Way, and we pass through the village of Huggate on the return leg. Weather permitting, there are some great views across the Wolds!
Saturday 3 March 2012: High Hunsley Circuit
- Distance
- 26 miles
- Difficulty
- Hard
- Meet
- 9.30am at Skidby (windmill)
- Leader
- Colin
A long walk that will probably finish in the dark, which starts in Skidby then takes in the south-west dales around Brantingham and Welton with views across the Humber, before heading north across open country to Bishop Burton and then back to Skidby.
