Emma led us on a linear walk following the Leeds—Liverpool Canal from Skipton to Saltaire – although the level terrain was easy going, the long distance and fast pace gave us a good workout. Most of us had made use of the good train service between Saltaire and Skipton, from where we set off along the canal towpath. The route runs through open countryside, small villages and bigger towns. By early afternoon, we had reached the café at Bingley Five Rise Locks, an impressive series of locks where the canal drops 20m. After having our fill of cake, we continued along the towpath, before arriving at Saltaire and the impressive edifice of Salts Mill.
