Breakfast in the hostel was just as good on the second day, tempered by rain outside, but this dried up as we were getting ready. After some initial confusion, we got most of the cars at the end of the walk and all the people at the start, and we were ready to go! We climbed gently up to Scarth Moor enjoying good views all around, only to find the path plunging down the hill to Scarth Nick. A short section through level woodland, and we ready to climb again, a steep ascent up Knoll's End and up onto Round Hill for a welcome rest and a lunch stop.

After lunch, we continued up to Carlton Moor, and just as we were getting our breath back and enjoying the spectacular views around, the path disappeared steeply downwards, and took us to Lord Stones Café, and then another steep climb up to Cringle Moor, down a steep drop at Kirby Bank, up a steep climb over Broughton Bank, down a steep drop to Garfit Gap, up a steep climb to the Wain Stones, an final half mile on the flat and once more we were tumbling lemming-like down Hasty Bank, and back to the cars at Clay Bank.

All in all, a superb walk - lots of steep hills to get the pulse racing, and such amazing views at the tops that we forgot how tired we were after the climbs!
