After some of us had spent the night at Osmotherley youth hostel, and fortified by a huge cooked breakfast, we met at Sutton Bank, and set off along the Cleveland Way under a glorious blue sky. We set a leisurely pace as the route hugged the edge of the Moors, with spectacular views to the west, across the Vale of York, and to the east, across the endless rolling moorland.
As we passed Black Hambleton, the path started to descend, and we paused for another rest stop by the hollow logs at Square Corner. Andrew proved conclusively that we don't need Andy to lower the tone, as he invited Heather to "play in his hole with him", to the bemusement of an elderly couple watching from a nearby parked car.
The route then dropped steeply down Oakdale, and we suffered our second casualty of the year (although we think Claire was only faking it so that David would give her a piggy-back), and after arranging a rescue vehicle, we returned to the pretty village of Osmotherley and to the youth hostel.
