We met in Welburn under a clear blue sky, despite snow over the coast, and quickly gathered a large group of 31 keen walkers. As we set off, it soon became apparent that, despite being February, it really was quite warm, and many of us were shedding layers like snakes until we were down to T-shirts. We passed through the impossibly pretty villages of Bulmer and Terrington, and stopped for lunch at a set of benches thoughtfully provided for us.
As we ate our sandwiches and basked in the sunshine, Kelly pointed out in the distance the first of the hills we had to climb, causing much dissent at the ascent (along the lines of "You mean what we just climbed up wasn't a hill?!"), but when we came to them, they weren't too bad, and the views from Slingsby Banks and Kelbro Hill were well worth the effort. The homeward leg took us through Coneysthorpe and the grounds of Castle Howard, and back to Welburn and the pub!
