We gathered on the hill leading up to St Cuthbert's Church in the village of Crayke, near Easingwold, at 10am ready to start our misty walk. After ascending the hill to the church, skirting around the graveyard, we began a descent into the fields around Crayke. It was immediately apparent that it was going to be a very muddy walk. After crossing the first field, many people commented that their feet felt heavy with the thick layer of sticky mud which had become stuck to their walking boots. The first half of the walk incorporated jumping a very precarious stream, and crossing a field littered with lots of carcasses of dead chickens.
Lunch was eaten sitting leant up against bales of hay, looking out toward Ampleforth Abbey. Only … it was too foggy to see the abbey! Re-energised, we set off for a change of scenery, as we began to walk through beautiful pine forests, and past a lake shrouded with mist. The sticky mud continued, making us feel like we deserved a good drink at the pub after the walk. We decided that The Durham Ox in Crayke was possibly not likely to welcome a group of muddy walkers. So, we jumped in the cars to Easingwold, where we enjoyed a drink, disussed Sat-Navs, and Richard and Scott had a sneaky look at Tracy's copy of Glamour magazine!
