Despite thick snow on the ground, 26 intrepid explorers turned up at Sutton Bank for the first walk of the year. Heading out along the Cleveland Way, we then dropped down to have lunch on the shore of the legendary bottomless Gormire Lake, but it was frozen over so we didn't get to check that out. After a little bit more walking, the temptation got too much and we stopped for a snowball fight, then continued over fields and through woodland to the foot of the Kilburn White Horse. It's quite hard to see a white horse against a snow-covered hillside…. One steep climb took us back to the top to again admire spectacular views across the Vale of York, then back to Sutton Bank for tea and cake in the visitor centre.
