About us

We are a friendly walking group aimed at people in their 20s, 30s and the young at heart, and we're based in North Yorkshire and the East Riding. We try to arrange 2 or 3 walks a month, or sometimes more, on Saturdays and Sundays; we also have weekend trips and social events.

There is no membership fee for GYBO, and anyone is welcome to join us for our monthly social nights. If you want to join us on walks, you'll need to join the Ramblers Association, which costs £34 per year (quote 'ER50' when you join, so that they know you are with us). If you're not sure if it's for you, you're welcome to come on up to three walks before you join the Ramblers, but after those three, we do require that you join. Only Ramblers members may lead walks with the group and go on weekend trips. Other benefits of joining the Ramblers are:

  • Full access to Ramblers Routes online library
  • Walk magazine, published every quarter
  • Walk Britain, annual walking and accommodation guide
  • Discretionary 15% discount at Cotswold Outdoor*
  • Competitive insurance rates with UIA
  • Save 5% on every booking with cottages4you

* may not apply in conjunction with other special offers available in store

The committee is elected at the Annual General Meeting, which takes place in November every year, and is responsible for running the group. If you would like to get involved, have a chat to one of the committee members and find out what role you might be able to play.
