We started the section 2
meeting at Newton upon Rawcliffe on a sunny morning. After cramming as many
bodies into as few cars as possible we enjoyed a ride to Hutton le Hole.
As we started walking we were ever mindful of those onimous clouds over head
and praying that this section would not be as muddy as the first.
At lunchtime we found cover
under some trees and promptly scurried into rucksacks for waterproofs as
hailstones pounded down on us. The walk continued with periodic
showers and sunshine. In Cropton a lady offered us some shelter during
the worst of the hail.
We were chased back into Newton upon Rawcliffe with the sound of thunder
ringing in our ears nevertheless we had to what the steam train pulling into
Levisham station. The day was ended by a lovely warm fire at the pub
in Cropton sampling the Cropton Brewery's finest fayre. Although the
Grand National was on the television we were content with our day's
achievements. |
